Mr. Kevon Spence

On the surface, Kevon L. Spence is an accomplished Educator with over 20 years of experience in Technical Education. Kevon has mentored many at risk students and has coached some of the most talented athletes in the Bahamas.
A native of Christiana, a rural district nestled in the cool hills of Manchester Jamaica. He grew up in a single parent home with his mother and three other siblings. Being the fourth child of four, he understood the value of hard work and making use of whatever opportunities were afforded to him. His mother worked hard to provide for their needs and stressed the importance of getting a proper education.
He attended Manchester High School where he developed a passion for Electrical Engineering. Upon completing High School he set out on a quest to fulfil his passion. He applied to the University of Technology, Jamaica but the engineering program was oversubscribed, so acting on the advice of his older brother Richard, he applied to the Mico University College and as they say the rest is history.

It was at the Mico that Kevon discovered his giftedness and true potential, it was not what he always dreamt of but what God had set in place for him. As he traversed the halls of The Mico he was taught not only the skills needed to become an outstanding Educator but the life skills needed to survive in a Global Community. Midway through his first year in College, his leadership ability was recognized and he was unanimously nominated to be Assistant House Captain of the Bishop House and one of the members of the Student’s Council.
His ability to motive, inspire and organized were on full display as he led the Bishop House to victory in numerous Inter-House competitions. He completed College as the top Electrical Technology student in the Class of 2000. Fresh out of College he embarked on his journey as an Educator, the road was ruff an uncertain as he only received temporary employment at three separate schools in two years.
In the summer of 2001 he enrolled in the Bachelors of Education Degree program at the University of Technology, where his major was General Technology. He completed the degree with Honours in the summer of 2003.
August 2002 he accepted an invitation to teach at a Christian school in Marsh Harbour, Abaco, Bahamas. While there he taught several subjects but none was more impactful than Technical Drawing which was new to the students and the school. Every student entered in the National Examination passed with an A-C grade.
During his time on Abaco, he impacted the community by coaching a local Night League Men’s Basketball team that went on to a Championship. He served the church in South Abaco as Sabbath School Superintendent. He accepted the call to be a Small Group Facilitator in the North Abaco District of Churches, this ministry realized eight precious souls for the Lord.
After two short years in Abaco Kevon returned home to Jamaica and married his soulmate Asha. A year had passed and once again he was offered an opportunity to teach in the Bahamas, this time in the capital city Nassau. So in December 2005, Kevon and Asha set off on a new adventure together.
The Bahamian way of life took some time to adjust to especially for Asha who was experiencing a culture shock. With God’s help they settled in and started a family, this union has produced three beautiful daughters Karissa, Alyssa and Leanna.
Kevon and Asha continued to give active service to God in their local church as; Family Ministry Directors, Sabbath School Superintendent, and Teacher. Kevon was ordained as an Elder in the year 2010 after serving for several years as Adventist Youth Leader.
While working for the Lord his passion for higher learning was not lost, this brought him to Northern Caribbean University where he was a member of the inaugural cohort to pursue a Master’s of Science Degree in Information Systems. Having completed this course in 2014 with the highest honours, he was invited to join the team of Youth Coordinators of the South Bahamas Conference of Seventh Day Adventist. His skill set was essential in building up the technological infrastructure that formed the backbone of the Youth Ministry under the theme “We will rise leaving no youth behind, not to compete but to complete.”
More than just an Educator, Kevon developed a legendary reputation as one of the most respected and feared Basketball coaches in the Bahamas, amassing two National Senior Girls Championships, three G.S.S.S.A Championships, three Geneva Rutherford Invitational Championships as well as two National Junior Boys Championships. Coaching is more than a pass time for him as his repertoire includes: Soccer and Track & Field. It has been a medium through which he has been able to touch the lives of so many talented youth who just needed the right amount of motivation to attain their full potential.
In his professional life he is the local Information Technology Specialist and Consultant on campus. His ability to manipulate the latest technology has been a great asset to his school.
It was in the fall of 2020, visionary Pastor Larry Green invited him to join the team of Zoom Hope Live along with his vivacious Co Host D. London Anderson. It was an offer he could not resist because of the long standing bond with Pastor L.G. and the potential impact of such a dynamic program on a global platform.
Kevon now serves as Engineer and Co-Producer of Zoom Hope Live, reaching the world with God’s message of hope one program at a time.
