Seeing God Through A Mother’s Hand

Seeing God Through A Mother’s Hand

Contributor: Larry L. Green

"Even from eternity I am He, And there is none who can deliver out of My hand; I act and who can reverse it?" Isaiah 43:13

On May 12, 2018, I asked my sister to send me a picture of my Grandmother's hands. As I look at the image of her hands, they were worn; bruised, wrinkled, tattered, scared, and tanned from years of sacrificial use.  It was these same hands that nurtured my mother into a woman who gave birth to me.  Those hands would have nursed generations of fevered heads, minor and significant bruises, and cuts. I could imagine that those hands would have cuddled me on many restless, crying nights (holding me close to her chest while singing nursery rimes and lullabies to the beat of her heart).

Those blistered hands were not only cherished memories, but they also remind me of a God whose hands are always there to hold and guide us.  The idea of God reaching out His hand to help us in our time of need is a central theme of Scripture. In Psalm 63, we read: "Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me” (v.7-8).

Jesus' last words were, "Father into thy hands; I commend my spirit."  He knew He was in safekeeping because He was in His Father's hands. He knew God would never drop Him, and He was safe and secure. Jesus speaking of us, said no man would be able to pluck us out of the hands of God. Paul said the same thing in 2 Timothy 1:12: "For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”

Sometimes it's so difficult to place our lives in the hands of people. Maybe you have been dropped by someone you have placed your trust in but not so with God. He will never disappoint you. Jesus' hands have gone through many things for us, but they are not slippery. Undoubtedly, the hands of our Lord are not too damaged to keep us. You can trust Him to hold your life together.

God Bless You.
